Our Elders


  • Jan Nagel

    Jan and his wife, Nancy, are both originally from South Dakota, but have lived in the CT/NYC area since 1988. They have attended Calvary Church for over 20 years. Jan has served as a Trustee, Elder, small group leader and teacher at Calvary and other churches over many years. Jan had the privilege of being raised by parents who served Christ and Jan accepted Christ as a teenager. Jan and Nancy have been married for over 40 years, with three children and six grandchildren all living in the area. Jan recently retired from an accounting, tax and advisory firm where he had worked for nearly 40 years in a number of locations. In addition to spending time with his family, Jan enjoys running, serving with various homeless ministries and mentoring the next generation. 


  • Dom Scerbo

    A native of Bridgeport, Dom received Christ as his personal Lord and Savior in 1979. He has been a Trumbull resident and a member at Calvary for over 25 years. Over the years he has served as a deacon, elder, small group coordinator, and drummer in our worship band. Dom and his wife, Kristine, have a daughter, two sons, two granddaughters and one grandson.  Dom is employed as an account executive, and enjoys good relationships, playing drums, and the study of meteorology.

  • Peter Smith

    Originally from Connecticut, Peter attended Furman University in Greenville, SC. It was at Furman that Peter met his wife, Kasie. They were married after graduation, lived in Greenville for several years and then moved to North Carolina, where Peter attended Wake Forest University School of Law. After receiving his J.D., Peter practiced law in Jacksonville, FL but felt God calling him to full-time pastoral ministry. He attended and graduated from Dallas Theological Seminary with a ThM in pastoral ministry. Peter's prior ministry experience includes serving on staff at The Howard Hendricks Center for Christian Leadership, serving as a pastor at a church in metro-Atlanta, and most recently pastoring at Community Bible Church in Savannah, GA. Peter and Kasie have four children ranging in ages from 10 to 18.  

  • Matt ALLEN

    Matt grew up in a Christian home, and he was saved by Christ when he was a small child. His wife Lisa became a believer while attending college. Matt and Lisa, along with their two children, moved to Connecticut from Dallas, TX in March, 2014. They have been members of Calvary Church since the winter of that year. Both have served with Kids Life at Calvary, and Matt has been teaching Adult Equipping classes as well. Matt works for a bank in Stamford, and in his spare time enjoys running with Lisa, reading a good book, and watching his daughter dance and his son play sports. 

  • BILL HUFF

    Bill is originally from Connecticut and returned here after several moves up and down the eastern seaboard. He has served in a number of large and small churches as a teacher, small group leader, and elder and has been an active leader at Calvary Church for 16 years. Bill accepted Christ as a child and became a fully devoted follower in high school through a vibrant youth ministry. He graduated from Gordon College and attended Gordon Conwell Theological Seminary. He and his wife, Gail, have been married for 35 years and have three daughters. He has been with a west coast biotechnology company for over 25 years but considers his calling to be ministry and service to the King.

  • Kevin DeVos

    Kevin was born and raised in Stamford and graduated from U of CT, Storrs. That is where he met Jesus through the campus ministry of The Navigators and his awesome wife, Janet. They were married here at Calvary in 1986 and have two wonderful children, Gregory and Rebecca. Kevin is a self employed option trader. He enjoys tennis, running and serving the Lord.

  • Kevin Courtney

    Originally from the Chicago area, Kevin and his wife, Shelley are parents to four wonderful children. As a young married couple, Kevin and Shelley committed their lives to Christ and they have been in the Lord’s service ever since. They became members at Calvary in 2015 when they moved to Connecticut from Massachusetts. Over the years, Kevin has enjoyed serving as a community group leader, teacher, short-term missions leader and elder.  Kevin has worked for the past 30 years in the nonprofit sector.
